Waste Management Guide
The following is information regarding all garbage, recyclables, and trash:
- Current garbage rate for residential customers: $25.00 per month per unit
- Pickup days, with the exception of trash items, are determined by the quadrant of the City in which you reside. (See Collection Schedule)
- Garbage should be placed in clear plastic bags. They are not to exceed 42 gallons or 50 pounds in size.
- The use of plastic containers with lids is encouraged for storage of garbage
- Items must be placed to curb no earlier than 6:00 PM on the evening before pickup or no later than 7:00 AM the day of pickup. All receptacles must be removed from the city right-of-way on the day of collection.
Recyclables
- Recyclables must be placed in containers which are clearly marked “Recyclables”
- Large cardboard boxes may be placed neatly at the curb
- The use of plastic bags is prohibited
- Co-mingle all recyclables, including:
- plastics
- tin
- aluminum
- paper
- glass
- cardboard
- metal
- empty aerosol cans
- coated paper cartons such as milk, juice, and drink boxes
- gift wrap
- newspapers
- brown paper bags
- telephone directories
- paper egg cartons
- magazines
Special Items
- Special items (furniture): $15.00
- White goods (with refrigerant): $20.00
- Metal: free (if scheduled in advance)
- A $7.00 service fee will be applied if you schedule a pickup for TVs, computer monitors, and microwaves
Electronic Equipment
The electronic items listed below may be dropped off at the DPW complex at no charge to the DPW garage, located at 17 Edgarton Drive, Fulton, NY 13069:
- audiovisual equipment
- cell phones
- circuit boards
- computers
- computer accessories
- computer monitors
- electronic scrap
- fax machines
- microwave ovens
- printers
- telecom equipment
- televisions
- typewriters
- video game systems
- wiring and cable
The City does not provide pickup of the following:
- Construction and demolition debris (C&D): Any building material such as drywall, asphalt shingles, wood, toilets, fiberglass or acrylic tubs and sinks
- Car parts: contact an auto salvage yard
- Hazardous materials such as paint, pesticides, turpentine, oil, fluorescent light bulbs, and batteries of any kind
The above items may be disposed of at Bristol Hill Transfer Station where you will be charged by weight for their disposal.
Penalties for offenses:
Section C70-11(a): any violator will be subject to fines and/or imprisonment as stated in the City Charter.
Effective June 4, 2024 new penalty fee structures for trash items not on the City Clerk’s official pickup list, placed in the City right-of-way will be charged as follows:
- Trash not on list – $50.00 per item
- Garbage out early – $10.00 per item
- Bag dumping/black bags – $10.00 per bag
- White goods – $20.00 per item
- Construction debris – $20.00 (minimum) based on weight
- TV, computer monitor, microwave – $15.00 per item
Note: This will include recyclables in bags, trash/garbage items in bags that are not clear or translucent, and bags of garbage put to the curb before their scheduled pickup. Charges will be added to the owner’s water/sewer bill.
